WOOSTER, Ohio (October 1, 2019)—A study was completed with Purdue Polytechnic on expensive medical grade anti-embolism stockings. The lab performed a blind test using an Instron Stress Strain machine to samples of stockings. They tested every sample until it failed in the form of a tear. The study found the elastic to be nearly 50% stronger after cryogenic treatment to -300 degrees Fahrenheit. This treatment will help prevent snagging and running of the elastic stockings.
In celebration of 2019 Aging in Place Week Oct. 13–19, local chapters of the National Aging in Place Council will present free live seminars built around the theme of “Paying for Aging in Place.”
The purpose of the presentations will be to help close the available funding awareness gap and make sure older adults and their families are apprised of all benefits and other funding sources.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (October 3, 2019)—HME stakeholders have persuaded Indiana Medicaid authorities to hold off deep reimbursement cuts along a broad range of HME products that were scheduled to go into effect on Oct. 1. The reversal follows a vigorous response to the proposed cuts from Indiana HME suppliers, along with the Great Lakes Home Medical Services Association (Great Lakes), AAHomecare, and other industry groups.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 3, 2019)—The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) announced that the next state to participate in the Review Choice Demonstration (RCD) is Texas and it will begin on Dec. 2, 2019. CMS also indicated that implementation of RCD in the remaining states of North Carolina and Florida is expected to begin on March 30, 2020, as CMS is pausing implementation to allow for the transition to PDGM which begins on Jan. 1, 2020.
