A British pilot study of 6,000 home health patients showed that telemonitoring technologies can reduce mortality rates by 45 percent and emergency room visits by 20 percent. Preliminary results of the two-year study, the Whole System Demonstration Programme, were released last week. Royal Philips Electronics was one of three technology providers for the study, and employed its Motiva remote patient management system for people with heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and diabetes. Great Britain is expanding the use of telemonitoring technologies to manage chronic conditions in 3 million patients.
