New orders on many devices to stop shipping immediately as company says it is shifting focus to consumables.

AMSTERDAM—Philips Respironics announced the discontinuation of 19 sleep and respiratory products in the United States with a shift in focus to the sale of consumables and accessories, including masks.

Philips said it will "not return to the sale of hospital ventilation products, certain home ventilation products, portable and stationary oxygen concentrators and sleep diagnostic products."

"We will be here to support customers and patients through the End of Service for these products as well as products that will continue to be actively sold," reads the Philips webpage announcing the discontinuations. "Customers will be contacted directly regarding any order cancellations resulting from our portfolio changes."

This news comes following last November's warning from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that patients and health care providers should carefully monitor Philips DreamStation 2 CPAP devices for signs of overheating, along with multiple other instances of recalls and a class action lawsuit in the United States.

"Changes to our commercial portfolio will not affect our commitment to the remediation of devices impacted by the June 2021 recall of certain CPAP, BiPAP and mechanical ventilator devices," Philips said.

The company will stop shipping new orders immediately and said it would notify customers with cancelled orders directly.

It also said it would continue to to provide service support for most until either 2028 or 2029, and during that time parts for repairs and preventive maintenance would be supplies "pending parts availability."
