The National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) announced last week its support for the nomination of Marilyn Tavenner to the post of administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

“We commend the Obama administration for the nomination of Marilyn Tavenner to be administrator of CMS,” Val J. Halamandaris, president of NAHC, said in a prepared release. “Ms. Tavenner brings a wealth of health care experience as a former home care nurse, health care executive and government official at the state level.”

Tavenner was nominated to succeed Dr. Donald Berwick as CMS administrator after Berwick announced his resignation effective Dec 2. Tavenner has been serving as deputy administrator, or second in command at CMS.

So far, support for Tavenner’s nomination has come from the American Medical Association, American Hospital Association, America’s Health Insurance Plans and Association of American Medical Colleges.
