According to HHS Inspector General Daniel R. Levinson, Congress should focus on enrollment if it wants to cut down on Medicare fraud. However, in testimony presented to the Senate Special Committee on Aging, which held a May 6 hearing on fraud in government health programs, he also said excessive reimbursement for HME items is an issue. Aligning Medicare reimbursement with the market would "make DME fraud less attractive," Levinson said.
