Birmingham, Alabama - Cahaba Media Group (CMG), headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, has acquired HomeCare magazine, homecaremag.com, and the HomeCare Monday e-newsletter from Penton Media as of September 20, 2011.  Terms were not disclosed.

HomeCare, which has been published for 36 years, is the leading publication serving the home medical equipment (HME) dealer market. The HomeCare Monday e-newsletter is widely recognized as the industry’s most important and authoritative source of breaking news for this critical industry.  Penton Media suspended publication of the magazine and e-newsletter in July 2011, but Cahaba Media Group will re-launch the HomeCare Monday e-newsletter and www.homecaremag.com in October 2011.  The print edition of HomeCare magazine will re-launch in early winter.

“We are excited to give a new home to this industry-leading title which complements our existing publication Senior Care Products, nicely.  Challenges exist in the HME business, as they do in all businesses, but we are optimistic about the long-term outlook for the HME industry because of the demographics of America’s aging population,“ said Wally Evans, president of Cahaba Media Group.

HomeCare Magazine Announces New Editorial and Sales Teams

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Cahaba Media Group is pleased to announce it is strengthening the team that made HomeCare magazine a leader in providing timely legislative, regulatory and business news to home medical equipment providers.

Former Editor-in-Chief Gail Walker, who had previously taken a leave of absence from the magazine for family reasons, will continue to lend her industry expertise as a contributing editor to HomeCare and as an influential member of the Editorial Advisory Board.  “I am thrilled that HomeCare is back and better than ever,” Walker says. “The industry has relied on this valuable information for 36 years. I know our loyal readers will be excited to see the positive changes.”

Cahaba Media Group welcomes veteran health care reporter and award-winning journalist, Dave Parks, as HomeCare’s new editor. Parks was the senior health reporter for The Birmingham News for 22 years and also worked as the health section editor at CNN.com. He recently published a book, “Health Care Reform Simplified,” and is a member of the American Medical Writers Association and the Association for Health Care Journalists.

“Through a nationwide search of the best health care journalists in the country, we were able to land a premier editor with exceptional industry expertise and experience,” says Michelle Segrest, Cahaba Media Group’s VP of Editorial. “Dave’s reporting abilities will allow us to stay on top of industry news, while his superb writing skills will enable us to deliver the complicated information in a style that is easy to understand and applicable to the businesses of our readers. Dave has many dynamic ideas that will bring a fresh and exciting flavor to the already excellent content that HomeCare readers have grown to expect and appreciate.”

Jane Longshore, HomeCare’s new managing editor, brings extensive magazine experience to the mix and will be a tremendous complement to the industry expertise established by Walker and Parks. “This is an all-star editorial team,” Segrest says. “We feel the outstanding content of HomeCare magazine is in the best possible hands.”

With more than 24 years of advertising and publishing experience and a seven-year history representing the HomeCare brand, Kent Peterson joins the Cahaba Media Group family as Associate Publisher.  The sales force will also include veteran health care advertising specialist, Jim Harmon, who is the Associate Publisher of Cahaba Media Group’s Senior Care Products magazine. “Kent and Jim are two of the best advertising professionals in this market, and have established great relationships with the industry’s leading companies.  We are confident that our advertisers will appreciate the deep knowledge of this market that they bring to the table, and we look forward to bringing world class marketing support to the advertisers in this industry,” says Wally Evans, president of Cahaba Media Group.

The website, www.homecaremag.com will be live immediately. The HomeCare Monday e-newsletter, widely recognized as the industry’s most important and authoritative source of breaking news for this critical industry, will return to regular publication in October 2011.
