ATLANTA (October 14, 2021)—The American Association for Homecare (AAHomecare) is proud to announce the 2021 Van Miller Homecare Champion award, recognizing outstanding home medical equipment (HME) service, will be presented to Steve Ackerman, president and CEO of Spectrum Medical in Silver Spring, Maryland. AAHomecare recognizes Ackerman for his service and passion for the HME industry, determined support for advocacy efforts at the federal and state level, and exceptional contributions to the homecare sector.

Through various leadership roles for the association, Ackerman has spoken before Congress and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Service (CMS) as an industry expert, and represented the industry as an effective champion for HME policy priorities. Most recently serving as the AAHomecare chairman of the board, he helped set priorities and build consensus on policies and regulations impacting the HME community.

Ackerman helped lead AAHomecare through significant industry change brought on by competitive bidding. He approached the challenges with a collegial spirit, reaching out to his fellow industry leaders and association members and listening to experiences with the goal of giving everyone a voice on the most important issues we collectively face.

The Van Miller Homecare Champion Award recognizes and honors AAHomecare members who reflect the characteristics of an HME visionary, Van G. Miller, past CEO and founder of the VGM Group. In 2019, the association honored Karyn Estrella, an exceptional regional association leader.

The presentation of this prestigious award will take place during the Stand Up for Homecare reception at Ventanas, from 5:30p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tickets are still available online. This is a wonderful opportunity for the homecare community to be present to celebrate and honor Steve Ackerman and the work he has done on behalf of the homecare community.
