WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 30, 2020)—The COVID-19 pandemic is challenging health care providers, communities and caregivers to a degree not seen in the last 100 years. While much of the nation is staying close to home to help limit the spread of the coronavirus, HME providers are on the front lines in responding to this crisis—providing compassionate and effective care to individuals who need respiratory support and also meeting the needs of patients who rely on the broad spectrum of products and related services provided by the industry. These efforts not only allow seniors and individuals with healthcare challenges to stay at home and avoid exposure to the virus, but also help reduce the extraordinary strain on hospitals and nursing facilities during this emergency.

Caring for patients with chronic conditions and severe disabilities can be difficult work even under normal conditions—and the new COVID-19 environment magnifies those stresses. Nonetheless, HME Heroes are answering the call in communities across America.

HME pros from seven companies working in some of the most challenging COVID-19 hotspots across America—New York, Louisiana, Michigan, and Washington State—have allowed AAHomecare to share their inspirational stories—read them here: HME Heroes—COVID-19 Edition.

Stories like these are just the tip of the iceberg of how the HME suppliers and manufacturers are stepping up to meet and help defeat the COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you for your courage and compassion on the front lines. We’re proud to stand beside you and fight for health care policies and share resources and guidance to assist in this essential and life-saving work.
