FRESNO, Calif. (June 5, 2018)—As part of World Environment Day 2018: Beat Plastic Pollution, Sunrise Medical recently reported efforts aimed at environmental responsibility. Focus includes:

  • Achieving zero waste to landfill and replacing the fleet of forklift trucks with equipment that is 27 percent more energy efficient, as well as introducing a formalized e-learning environmental tool for all employees—Sunrise United Kingdom.
  • Replacing plastic bubble wrap, bags and tape to save what amounts to approximately seven, 40-foot containers of plastic—Sunrise Germany.
  • Reducing an estimated 60,000 plastic bottles since expanding the number of water coolers in its facilities—Sunrise North America. The company's Fresno facility added more recycle bins, which contributed to a 14 percent increase in the number of pounds recycled since last year.
  • Maintaining ISO 14001 certification—Sunrise UK, Germany, Tijuana, Poland, Fresno.
  • Continuing to enhance recycling programs, making them more efficient and significantly reducing the amount of waste, as well as furthering the recycle process into the supply chain—Sunrise North America, Australia, United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, Tijuana.

Last year, Sunrise Medical launched an internal campaign to develop a design for a reusable tote bag which was provided to each employee and, this year, initiated a global contest for employees to submit the most creative ways to re-use, recycle or replace plastic.
