BALTIMORE—Following an announcement by the U. S. Food and
Drug Administration last week warning consumers of a tainted skin
sanitizer, CMS is advising health care providers and their patients
not to use skin products made by Clarcon Biological Chemistry
Laboratory.
The company is voluntarily recalling some skin sanitizers and skin
protectants marketed under several different brand names, among
them Citrushield Lotion, Dermasentials DermaBarrier, Dermassentials
by Clarcon Antimicrobial Hand Sanitizer and Iron Fist Barrier Hand
Treatment.
According to the FDA notice, analyses of
several samples of the products revealed high levels of various
bacteria, including some associated with unsanitary conditions.
Some of these bacteria can cause opportunistic infections of the
skin and underlying tissues, the notice said.
