INDIANAPOLIS—MiraVista is hosting a free webinar featuring experts in reimbursement, health care law, insurance contracting, billing and accreditation to examine the growing pressure on small durable medical equipment (DME) suppliers and why the independent model still matters.
"The Once and Future Role of the Independent DME Supplier" webinar will take place Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. (ET). The event will highlight a panel of experts to discuss a regulatory environment that increasingly and incorrectly brands small and independent DME suppliers as core causes of fraud, waste and abuse in the health care system. This event is for DME owners, operators, managers, billers and other industry leaders.
MiraVista said the discussion is aimed at the broader narrative that consolidation and elimination of small suppliers is the practical answer to health care cost containment.
"Recent CMS policy suggests size and scale are the only drivers of quality, compliance and long-term viability," said the company. "This is not an abstract policy debate. It is a discussion about who serves DME patients going forward. The goal of the webinar is to facilitate a more serious discussion about the assumptions underlying those challenges."
“Independent suppliers are presented in CMS statements as if they are the sole source of the industry’s problems and consolidation is the obvious cure,” said MiraVista’s Operations Member Derrick Stark. “That framing ignores the value smaller companies bring to patients, referral sources and communities.
