WASHINGTON--On May 29, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary
Kathleen Sebelius announced the appointment of Cindy Mann, director
of the Georgetown University Center for Children and Families, as
director of the Center for Medicaid and State Operations, part of
the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Mann most recently served as a research professor and executive
director of the Center for Children and Families, an independent
policy center based at Georgetown University’s Health Policy
Institute. From 1999-2001, she was director of the Family and
Children’s Health Program Group at the Health Care Financing
Administration (HCFA), now CMS, where she played a key role in
implementing Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance
Program (CHIP).
“Cindy has been instrumental in recent efforts to expand
health care coverage in our country,” Sebelius said.
“Her knowledge of health care issues and management
experience will be a great asset to CMSO and to the millions of
Americans who rely on Medicaid.”
Sebelius added that Mann “has devoted her career to working
on behalf of children and families, the elderly and people with
disabilities.”
