BOISE, Idaho (May 31, 2017)—Bestbath, a leading manufacturer of universal design and accessible code-compliant showers and tubs, has unveiled a new design for shower trench drains. The innovative design features several advantages over traditional trench drains; it is easier to install and clean, boasts an improved water containment rate, comes in a wide variety of sizes, and is constructed with a durable, magnetic grate backed by Bestbath’s 30-year product warranty.

Bestbath developed the design after assessing customer demand for a sleeker, modern look that was easy to install, clean and maintain. The trench grates on new models have integrated magnets, replacing screws to hold the grate firmly in place. The powerful magnets allow for quick attachment or removal for installation and cleaning.

“We wanted to create a solution that would address all of the feedback we were hearing from our customers,” said Bill Bridgeman, Bestbath vice president of commercial sales. “Their top priorities were convenience oriented; they wanted an easy method of installation, cleaning and maintenance. Our latest development meets those demands and is complementary with our full range of bathing products.”

In addition to improving aesthetics and access, the new grate is slightly longer, which directs water more efficiently into the trench for improved water containment. Bestbath has also created a new feature that allows the drain to be installed directly on a subfloor without recessing, making it easier for new and retrofit construction.

“This new feature is completely free of extraneous materials like rubber or screws that would interfere with the design aesthetic,” said Bridgeman. “In keeping with our theme of universal design and to meet accessibility codes such as ADA, ANSI B, California Title 24 and other local codes, our goal was to make the product both beautiful and functional.”

Over the next year, the new trench drain design will be integrated across Bestbath’s full line of shower models. The new design can be viewed via Bestbath’s website; an accompanying short video demonstrating the installation process is also available.
