WASHINGTON—The 2026 health funding bill that was signed into law Feb. 3 included a change to the qualifying criteria for drugs under Medicare’s home infusion benefit that may expand access to some drugs if an infusion pump is required for administration.

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia—The National Home Infusion Association (NHIA) announced it successfully petitioned the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to secure a new billing code for injectable immunotherapies and revise an existing code to facilitate administration of a wider range of monoclonal antibodies for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).

From 2019-2021, fewer than 1,300 Medicare beneficiaries used the home infusion benefit each calendar quarter—even though about 3.2 million patients are served each year by home infusion pharmacies. The National Home Infusion Association (NHIA) and other advocacy groups are working to pass the Preserving Patient Access to Home Infusion Act, a bill that would fix flaws in Medicare’s coverage, including adding pharmacy services.
