ADEL, Iowa — Evo Medical Solutions announced last week it has acquired North Huntingdon, Pa.-based Inspired Technologies and its SmartDose auto-adjusting oxygen conserving device. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"I have been in this industry since 1983, both as a provider and as a manufacturer, and I would say this is one of the most significant new technologies introduced into the home care market in that period of time," said Dan Bunting, Evo CEO and president, in a release.

The SmartDose automatically monitors and adjusts dosage to deliver the correct amount of oxygen based on the user's activity level, the only portable on the market incorporating such technology. The device will become part of Evo's line of respiratory products, which includes nebulizers, suction machines, oxygen and sleep products.

"This is a technology that should be on every ambulatory oxygen patient, and it is our responsibility to make that happen in a cost-effective manner for our customers," said Bunting, who told HomeCare in an earlier interview that providers "are searching for new ways to have technology advances fit into the reimbursement environment."

Said Bunting, "We intend to make this elite product the standard for all ambulatory oxygen patients, at a cost comparable to the other products on the market today."

Inspired's CEO Rich Kocinski echoed the sentiment. "In 28 years of product development and manufacturing, SmartDose is the best product I've ever had," said Kocinski, who along with Dave Pugh, Inspired's vice president of sales, will join Evo. "As products continue to decline in quality and performance, we intend to offer best value and clinically superior product at competitive prices.

"When all is said and done," Kocinski said, "this is still a growth industry."
