ATLANTA (July 28, 2015)—A massive amount of knowledge awaits attendees at Medtrade, scheduled for Oct 26-29, 2015, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. Past attendees may remember Bruce Brothis, president of Allegient Billing & Consulting, in full haz-mat gear in homage to the Breaking Bad series. Brothis will be back at Medtrade, this time taking the Breaking Bad sequel theme of Better Call Saul.

Brothis’ new session will explore various industry benchmarks to allow attendees to compare their company’s financial and operational performance to industry standards. Unlike shyster Saul Goodman, modern providers must run a tight ship with sound business practices and cracker-jack employees.

The following key topics will give providers insight into how well, or not so well, their organization is performing against industry averages:

  • DSO (Days Sales Outstanding): DSO is one of the best benchmarks to determine the efficiency of an organization’s billing and collections. DSO will be defined, the methodology for its calculation will be provided, and the industry average will be given for comparison.
  • A/R Averages (Accounts Receivable): What does an Aged Accounts Receivables report look like? Way too much over 120 days? What should the numbers look like in each aging column (“bucket”)?
  • Billing Staff vs Revenue: The age-old industry question—How many people should be employed in the Billing Department? While this number can vary by the volume and dollar amount of claims, there are generally accepted ratios providers need to know. The magic numbers will be disclosed and discussed.

Brothis’ Session is Tuesday, October 27, from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. in Room C210. —Greg Thompson
