Pharmacies can improve their business practices with this new accreditation service.

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (October 3, 2017)—The Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC) is accepting applications for a new Compounding Accreditation for pharmacies. The new accreditation will focus solely focus on non-sterile compounding and is only available in conjunction with BOC Retail or Retail + DMEPOS accreditation.

Compounding refers to a process by which a pharmacist prepares drugs by combining, mixing or altering ingredients into a pharmaceutical preparation. BOC’s Compounding Accreditation is a three-year accreditation based on the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) guidelines, federal regulations and third-party payor requirements.

According to BOC Chief Credentialing Officer Wendy Miller, BOCO, LO, CDME, the new pharmacy accreditation is a natural addition for the company which was founded in 1984 by a pharmacist, Dr. Donald O. Fedder, DrPH, MPH, BSP, FAPhA. “The new Compounding Accreditation program will give pharmacies the opportunity to offer their patients, referral sources and the third-party payer the assurance of safe business practices,” Miller says. BOC made the decision to add Compounding Accreditation to give customers access to a more customer-centric, streamlined and cost effective option. While Pharmacy Accreditation is not required, Miller recommends it for pharmacies to improve their business practices, ensure accurate accounting and billing, and develop human resources.

BOC representatives will be at the NCPA Annual Convention in Orlando on October 14-18. To learn more about compounding accreditation as a pharmacy business solution, attendees can stop by BOC’s vendor exhibit booth 1119.
