OWINGS MILLS, Md., Nov. 13, 2012—The election of Claudia Zacharias, MBA, CAE, president and CEO of the Board of Certification/Accreditation, International (BOC) to its Board of Directors was recently announced by the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE). ICE is a professional membership association that advances credentialing through education, standards, research, and advocacy to ensure competence across professions and occupations.

ICE’s accrediting body, the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), evaluates certification programs to ensure the health, welfare and safety of the public through the assessment of professional competency. NCCA accredits over 275 certification programs from more than 100 credentialing organizations, including the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Zacharias's selection to the Board demonstrates the credentialing community’s high regard for BOC, which is the only O&P credentialing group to have all of its certifications accredited by NCCA.

Zacharias, who has been with BOC since 2009, has over 20 years of non-profit management experience, including four years at ANCC, the world’s largest and most prestigious board-credentialing organization for the field of nursing. Upon taking on the CEO role at BOC, she was committed to maintaining BOC’s record of 100 percent NCCA accreditation.

Of joining the ICE Board of Directors, Zacharias said, “I’m so honored to be elected by my peers to serve on the ICE Board. As both a credentialing professional and a consumer, I believe in ICE’s important work and look forward to contributing to their continued success.”

Jan paul Miller, MA, MEd, BOC Director of Certification, attended the induction event at the ICE 2012 Annual Education Conference in Palm Springs, CA, and notes, “I’m so proud that BOC’s CEO was chosen for this important role. I’m a big believer in ICE, and the assurance they offer that credentialing programs are robust, relevant and psychometrically sound.”

Since 1984 the Board of Certification/Accreditation, International (BOC) has provided credentials demonstrating the competence and proficiency of O&P professionals. BOC offers NCCA-accredited certification programs in five disciplines: orthotics, prosthetics, pedorthics, orthotic fitting, and mastectomy fitting. BOC’s facility accreditation program partners with durable medical equipment, prosthetic and orthotics suppliers (DMEPOS) to meet standards set by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and improve business practices. BOC credentials celebrate and recognize the competence, professionalism, and safe practice environments of BOC-certified practitioners and BOC-accredited facilities. Learn more at www.bocusa.org.
