BILLINGS, Mont. (July 9, 2014)—Emerging medical device company, ExcelHealth Inc. received a license for commercial sale of its first product, the iReliev Pain Management System (ET-1313) from Health Canada. The device, which utilizes (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) TENS technology to relieve acute and chronic pain, is now available to medical professionals and consumers alike in Canada and the U.S. Earlier this year, the device was also FDA cleared for over the counter (OTC) use in the U.S.

TENS is a safe, non-invasive, drug-free method of pain management used by physical therapists and prescribed by doctors for more than thirty years. TENS therapy utilizes low voltage electrical current to deliver massage like pulses to the skin which stimulate nerve fibers that block the pain message to the brain. This is known as the Gateway theory. Studies also indicate endorphins, a natural pain reliever, may be increased with the use of TENS.

ExcelHealth’s CEO and iReliev developer, Mike Williams said, “People suffering from physical pain is truly an epidemic throughout the world. My mother suffers from Multiple Sclerosis. I understand the impact pain can have on the whole family. I am passionate about bringing to the marketplace accessible OTC pain management products that truly help people. iReliev is a dream come true."

More than 1.5 billion people worldwide suffer from chronic pain of varying degrees. In Canada, pain is the most common reason for seeking healthcare as presenting complaints account for 78 percent of visits to the emergency room. “With greater scrutiny and tighter controls on prescription drugs and opioid pain relievers, offering consumer’s appropriate drug free alternatives is important” said Williams.

“The iReliev Pain Management system is safe, easy to use, accessible and cost-effective. TENS has been shown to be effective for hundreds of thousands of people across the world." Health Canada is the Federal department in Canada that reviews medical devices to assess their safety and effectiveness before being authorized for sale. The iReliev Pain Management System received CE marking for European sale in May 2014 and received FDA clearance in January 2014 for U.S sales.

iReliev is a dual channel TENS device that features new digital technology making it smaller and more portable than most of its competitors. Greater portability leads to more effective pain relief while at work, running errands or going shopping. The iReliev Pain Management System as well as the iReliev Pads & Leads Refill Kit can be inexpensively purchased at Amazon or ireliev.com.
