  • Grow Your Profitability Like the Big Guys

When Goldman Sachs released its 2016 research estimate for the S&P 500, it prompted me to wonder what lessons small- to mid-size companies could learn from the examples of their S&P 500 big brothers. The answer: There’s much to be gained from following these leaders’ examples, but they need to be modified to the specific goals and needs of smaller enterprises. The bottom line is that they’re focused on increasing profitability (you should be, too), and they’re spending trillions to do it. Goldman Sachs estimates that Standard & Poor’s 500 companies will spend $2.2 trillion in 2016 to make their companies more profitable or to make money for their shareholders. We have been discussing my Secrets to Effective Training (“SET”) for your compliance program. CRT Accessory Payment Issue On July 27, Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) introduced a bill—H.R. 3229—that addresses the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) plan to apply competitive bid program pricing to complex rehab technology (CRT) wheelchair accessories effective January 1, 2016. The Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA) excluded CRT wheelchairs and accessories from the Medicare competitive bidding program. At the time, Congress could not have anticipated that…

  • Ready, Set, Hire

Hiring great people to work in the HME industry is a challenging process. Whether you do the hiring yourself or utilize a professional recruiting firm, it is important to understand the current labor environment as well as the need to analyze your company. By doing so, you give yourself and the candidate the best chance to be successful. The most recent release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics was dated July 2, 2015, and provided information about the current national employment situation. The unemployment rate declined again from May 2015 to 5.3 percent, with job gains in a number of areas but notably in the health care arena. Professional and business services added 64,000 jobs in June, which was in line with the average monthly…
