Teijin Expands in Europe

TOKYO — Teijin Pharma Limited, the core company of the
Teijin Group’s home health care business, announced earlier this
month it will strengthen its presence in the Spanish home health
care field as part an expansion in the European market. Teijin
entered the market last year in a joint venture with Esteve, a
Spanish pharmaceutical company. In addition to control of roughly
60 percent of the market for home oxygen in Japan, the company is
also growing operations in South Korea and the U.S. In 2007, the
company completed its purchase of Bakersfield, Calif.-based Braden
Partners (Pacific Pulmonary Services), followed in 2008 by the
purchase of Associated Healthcare, Amherst, N.Y., and Clifton,
N.Y.-based Home Therapy Equipment.
