From the ‘I’ll Believe It when I See It’ File

WASHINGTON — The House of Representatives has passed the
Plain Writing Act of 2010 (H.R. 946) “to improve the effectiveness
and accountability of federal agencies to the public by promoting
clear government communication that the public can understand and
use.” The legislation requires each executive agency to use plain
writing in every document (other than a regulation) issued to the
public. A companion bill in the Senate (S. 574) has been placed on
that chamber’s calendar.
