Red Flags Rule Deadline Aug. 1
After two delays, the deadline for compliance with the Federal
Trade Commission’s Red Flags Rule is coming up Aug. 1. The rule,
which requires implementation of identity theft prevention
programs, applies to all “creditors,” including HME providers who
bill for copays or deductibles after equipment/services have been
provided. Under the rule, affected companies must put in place
prevention programs to identify patterns or activities that are
“red flags” for possible identity theft. See “Are You Ready for the Red
Flags Rule?” for a comprehensive Q&A on the rule’s basics
from health care attorney Jeff Baird of Brown & Fortunato. Read
the full
text of the rule.
