    Accreditation Calculation Could you tell me what kind and by what entity Medicare will require accreditation of DME companies?     NSC, CMS Propose Supplier Number Standards Clarification

    Columbia, S.C. According to both government officials and industry stake-holders, vague Medicare supplier standards are partly to blame for DME fraud. In response, earlier this year the National Supplier Clearinghouse Advisory Committee (NSCAC), which is made up of representatives from the four DMERC (durable medical equipment regional carrier) advisory councils, requested that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the NSC draft written guidance for providers who must comply with the 21 Medicare supplier standards. At press time, the draft had been forwarded to NSCAC members, and representatives from both agencies would be “tweaking those clarifications if [committee members] have some substantive comments, which I’m sure they will,” said a CMS official.     AAHomecare Members Fight MMA’s Reimbursement Changes

    As Washington rushed to prepare for former president Ronald Reagan’s funeral, 200 industry stakeholders fanned out over Capitol Hill to drive the home care message. During the American Association for Homecare’s Legislative Conference, held June 7-9, HME providers and manufacturers skirted hastily erected security fencing and crowd-control rails to keep appointments with 165 members of Congress and their legislative aides. Chief topics of discussion with the federal representatives were the DME reimbursement cuts and revised pricing for inhalation drugs mandated under the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA).
