On June 17, Gov. Bob Taft signed into law a bill mandating state licensure for all Ohio HME providers.
In late May, the licensure bill passed the state Senate and was sent back to the Ohio House of Representatives for a consensus vote, which occurred shortly before the legislature adjourned for summer recess at the end of the month.
“After seven years actively advocating an HME licensure bill, [the Ohio Association of Medical Equipment Services] has finally achieved this huge victory for Ohio’s HME services industry and the customers we serve,” according to a statement released by OAMES after the bill passed.
The law will go into effect 90 days from when the governor signed the legislation.
