Evidence continues to mount for a connection between obstructive sleep apnea and heart disorders. The latest research, which appeared in the May 27 issue of the American Heart Association journal Circulation, found that patients with untreated OSA were at increased risk of a recurrence of a heart-rhythm disorder called atrial fibrillation. Specifically, the study found that 82 percent of patients with untreated OSA experienced a recurrence of AF within a year of initial treatment for the disorder, while only 42 percent of OSA patients who received continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy experienced a recurrence of the disorder.
