Furthering the Fight

The lyrics of country music star Jason Aldean’s new song, “Help You Remember,” are a reflection of his personal experience of having family members suffer from dementia-related illnesses. The song is also helping raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s (AFA) battle against Alzheimer’s and dementia.

“Jason Aldean is using his voice and the power of music to remind families caring for loved ones with dementia that they are not alone and that help and support are available,” said AFA President and CEO Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. “One of country music’s biggest stars sharing his personal experiences of how dementia impacted his family is an enormously powerful and effective way to reinforce that message and raise awareness. We’re immensely grateful for everything he is doing to support AFA and families affected by dementia-related illnesses.”

“Help You Remember” will be part of Aldean’s upcoming new album, “Songs About Us,” which will come out on April 24.
He revealed in a recent interview on the podcast “Armchair Expert” that his uncle passed away in 2024 from Lewy body dementia. Aldean said those experiences inspired the song.

Aldean’s wife, Brittany Aldean, also recently shared her experiences with her own father’s battle with Lewy body dementia on social media.

“When Jason’s bandmates wrote this song … it obviously hit home, and Jason’s uncle actually had the same type of dementia and passed away from this dementia, right before my dad was diagnosed,” she said. “We started seeing signs back in 2020, and then in 2022, my dad was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia, which is a very horrible form. It is true what they say about dementia, which is, ‘it’s the long goodbye.’ Because just cognitively, your loved one declines, and it just seems like such a slow process, but it’s quick, too. And you’re just slowly losing your person, you know? It’s just like, mourning the loss of someone who’s still alive, so it’s been a really hard thing to go through.”
