Sunrise Medical Acquires Spinergy
MALSCH, Germany and SAN MARCOS, California—Sunrise Medical, a provider of advanced assistive mobility solutions, announced the acquisition of Spinergy, Inc., a brand of high-performance wheels for active manual wheelchairs. The investment will support Spinergy’s next phase of growth as an independent component supplier within the Sunrise Medical Group, the companies said.
For more than three decades, Spinergy has earned the trust of active wheelchair users and elite athletes, with wheelchair manufacturers around the world offering its wheels. Its proprietary PBO fiber-spoke technology combines strength and low weight with vibration absorption, helping to soften the impact of uneven surfaces.
“I have devoted more than 30 years to building Spinergy alongside a team that shares my passion for making exceptional products,” said Marty Connolly, president of Spinergy. “We have earned the trust of riders who do not compromise on their equipment and the partners who build around our components. With Sunrise Medical’s support, we can take that work further while staying true to our brand, our people and our commitments to customers. I am excited about what we can achieve together.”
Spinergy will continue to operate independently within the Sunrise Medical Group, retaining its brand and its entire organization and team. Its long-standing relationships with wheelchair manufacturers, distributors and users will remain at the heart of the business, with a continued commitment to serving partners across the mobility industry, it said.
Sunrise Medical will support Spinergy’s growth through further product development, enhanced customer support and broader market reach. The shared ambition is to build on Spinergy’s expertise in performance wheels and bespoke carbon fiber design and manufacturing, bringing new innovations and more choice to riders worldwide.
“Spinergy is an iconic name in active mobility, with a reputation that reaches from everyday riders to the world’s finest wheelchair athletes,” said Thomas Babacan, president and chief executive officer of Sunrise Medical. “Its pioneering PBO wheels and bespoke carbon fiber expertise reflect a passion for engineering that we share. We are delighted to welcome the team and invest in the next chapter of this exceptional business. Our ambition is to give Spinergy the resources to innovate, grow and better serve its customers and the riders who rely on its products, while preserving the independence and entrepreneurial spirit that have made it so successful.”
