CBIC Posts Additional Round 1 Updates Today

BALTIMORE — The CBIC posted another raft of updated
documents on its website today dealing with grandfathering
information under competitive bidding.

The updates include instructions for notifying beneficiaries
when suppliers choose to become — or not to become —
grandfathered suppliers, and the notification requirements don’t
leave much time for affected providers to figure out what they’re
going to do or to notify beneficiaries about it.

According to the updates, non-contract suppliers who choose not
to be a grandfathered supplier must send beneficiaries a 30-day, a
10-day, and a 2-day notice of their decision.

“The 30-day notification to the beneficiary must be sent by
Wednesday, November 17, 2010, and must be in writing (e.g., by
letter or postcard),” according to the requirements. “For your
convenience, we have provided a sample notification letter that
includes all required information,” the CBIC said.
