FRESNO, California—Sunrise Medical announced the launch of a new wheel add-on, the Empulse M90 for manual wheelchairs. With its lightweight build, M90 delivers power assist without the bulk, wires or external components typically seen on similar devices.
There are no visible wires or add-ons, and the design keeps the wheelchair compact while improving balance and ride quality thanks to hub-centered weight. The removable lithium-ion batteries are discreetly housed for a cleaner look, are rechargeable and are flight-friendly for traveling. Weighing just 27 pounds (12.2 kilograms) for the complete set, the M90 is up to 40% lighter than similar products. Each wheel—including its battery—weighs just 12.9 pounds (5.9 kilograms).
The M90 offers two drive modes: all-way toggle for power wheelchair-style control and speed controller with hand rim steering for a cruise control-like experience using the hand rims. The wireless Dual Controller can be mounted wherever it’s most convenient and detaches easily for transfers. Riders can continue using their preferred tires and hand rims.
Built-in cruise control and intelligent hill control help ensure a safe, smooth experience. Riders can switch from power assist to free-roll instantly for complete flexibility.
