Washington, D.C. (July 2, 2019) -- The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has removed two Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes just days before the bid window opens.

Codes E0992 and K0056 have been dropped from the standard power mobility devices product category as they are only applicable to the standard manual wheelchairs product category. Due to time constraints with the opening of the bid window on July 16, 2019, the two codes will remain in the Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS) Bidding System, DBidS. However, the codes have been removed from the Product Categories files and Utilization Report and will be removed from the Lead Item Pricing Calculator and HCPCS Lookup tool on the Competitive Bidding Implementation Contractor (CBIC) website before the bid window opens.

The codes are: E0992, for manual wheelchair accessory, solid seat insert; and K0056, for a high-strength lightweight or ultra-lightweight wheelchair seat height less than 17 inches or equal to or greater than 21 inches. See more at the Competitive Bidding Implementation Contractor's website.
