House Hearing on Medicare Fraud

House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee Chairman Pete Stark,
D-Calif., and Oversight Subcommittee Chairman John Lewis, D-Ga.,
will hold a hearing on reducing Medicare fraud June 15 (Tuesday).
According to Stark, the hearing will “examine the Administration’s
efforts, as well as the enhanced tools and resources to fight fraud
contained in the Affordable Care Act.”

A hearing advisory noted the new health reform law has given HHS
and the Department of Justice additional tools to fight fraud,
including increased penalties and the means to prevent fraudulent
providers from enrolling in Medicare in the first place.

Among others, those testifying will include Office of Inspector
General Chief Counsel Lewis Morris and CMS Director of Medicare
Program Integrity Kim Brandt. The hearing will begin at 10 a.m. ET
in the Longworth House Office Building.
