Fla. Medicaid Uses Voice Recognition to Verify Home Health Visits

TALLAHASSEE — According to Florida’s Agency for Health
Care Administration, hearing may be believing. AHCA announced last
week it will begin using voice recognition technology “to verify
that home health services were actually delivered” to Medicaid
beneficiaries in Miami-Dade County, which some federal officials
have dubbed “the epicenter” of Medicare and Medicaid fraud.

Beginning July 1, AHCA contractor Sandata will validate home
health visits through voice recognition from a telephone at the
patient’s home, verifying when a nurse or home health aide arrived
and departed. Participation in the project is mandatory for home
health providers to continue receiving Medicaid reimbursement.

All claims with dates of service July 1 and after for home
health visits in Miami-Dade must be generated through Sandata’s
