California Passes Bill That Expands Access to Enteral Nutrition With Home Delivery
SACRAMENTO, California—California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1794 on Sept. 27. The bill expands patient access to enteral nutrition and updates California’s Pharmacy Law to clearly authorize pharmacists, manufacturers and wholesalers to participate in arrangements that allow enteral nutrition supplements or replacements to be delivered directly to a patient’s residence.
The American Association of Homecare (AAHomecare) said the law clarifies that these home-delivery setups are permitted, which helps reduce barriers to receiving essential nutrition.
Additionally, the bill will now define enteral nutrition supplements or replacements to mean medical food used as a therapeutic regimen to prevent serious disability or death in patients with medically diagnosed conditions that preclude the full use of regular food.
“Congratulations to the California Association of Medical Product Suppliers (CAMPS) on the success of its advocacy on behalf of enteral suppliers and patients in California,” AAHomecare said.
