AAHomecare Introduces Code of Ethics, Elects Board Members

LAS VEGAS — At a May 12 meeting during Medtrade Spring,
the American Association for Homecare previewed its new Code of
Business Ethics. According to the group, the code was developed “to
highlight and promote the high standards practiced by home care
providers, and demonstrates this sector’s commitment to honest and
transparent business practices.”

The nation’s new health reform law (the Patient Protection and
Affordable Care Act, or PPACA) mandates adoption of compliance
plans for health care providers, and the new code should help
comply with those requirements, officials said.

The code states that association members will:

• Comply with applicable federal, state and local laws and
  regulations;
• Promote and encourage conduct that builds trust between
  members, patients, referral sources and private and public-sector
  payers;
• Provide prompt and reliable home care products and services,
  appropriate for each individual’s needs, health and safety;
  and
• Encourage and promote ethical business practices and shall
  refrain from offering unlawful inducements in order to influence
  business.

Also at the spring trade show, the association elected six
at-large directors. They include: Rob Brant, general manager of
City Medical Services, North Miami Beach, Fla.; Randy Wolfe,
president of Lambert’s Health Care, Knoxville, Tenn.; Dave
McCausland, senior vice president for planning and government
affairs, The ROHO Group, Belleville, Ill.; Jackie Bolt, president
and CEO of Carolina Homecare, Greenville, S.C.; Bill Elliott,
president and CEO of The MED Group, Lubbock, Texas; and Tim
Pederson, CEO of WestMed Rehab, Rapid City, S.D.

A.J. Filippis, president and CEO of Wright & Filippis,
Rochester Hills, Mich., was elected chair of the association. Joel
Marx, CEO of Medical Service Co., Cleveland, was elected vice
chair; and Scott Meuser, chairman and CEO of Pride Mobility
Products, Exeter, Pa., was elected secretary.
