Short people are more likely to develop heart disease than tall
people, according to a study published online in the European
Heart Journal.
The analysis by Finnish researchers looked at evidence from 52
studies of over three million people and found that short adults
(under 5 feet 3 inches) were about 1.5 times more likely to develop
heart disease and die from it than were tall people, or those over
5 feet 8 inches. This appeared to be true for both men and women,
the researchers said.
While reasons for the increased risk are not known, the
researchers speculated that smaller coronary arteries in shorter
people could be the culprit.
