Invacare, Mixon Honored for Community Service

Smart Business, an Ohio business journal, has honored
Invacare Corp. and its CEO Mal Mixon for service to the community.
The manufacturer received the Medical Mutual S.H.A.R.E. award,
which recognizes a company that “best exemplifies employee-driven
community service, philanthropy or volunteerism.” Mixon received
the Kent Clapp CEO Leadership Award, which honors a top executive
of a for-profit company for creating a culture of giving.

The Elyria, Ohio-based company is a corporate sponsor of such
organizations as the Paralympics, the United Way of Greater Lorain
County and Easter Seals. It has devised an Invacare Gives Back
program, which offers associates opportunities to help the local
community. Mixon is chairman of the board for the Cleveland Clinic
Foundation, BioEnterprise and the Cleveland Institute of Music. He
also serves on the Visiting Committee of Harvard Business School
and has endowed several scholarships and chairs at colleges and
universities.
