LENEXA, Kan. (December 1, 2016)—Mediware Information Systems, Inc. is hosting a free webinar for attendees on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at 1:00 CST, 2:00 EST, to discuss how DME suppliers can participate in telehealth arrangements while staying within the law. The webinar is entitled “DME Telehealth Arrangements: What is Proper and What is a Sham?,” presented by Jeffrey S. Baird, of Brown & Fortunato, P.C.

Telehealth arrangements are becoming a “wave of the future” that can save physicians valuable time and prove just as effective as an in-person physician/patient encounter. Although telehealth technologies add flexibility for the patient, it doesn’t go without a burden on the DME supplier to ensure the telehealth encounter is legitimate and not a “sham.” Participating in a sham telehealth encounter can not only lead to a denial of the supplier’s claim, but can also result in a government investigation of the supplier if it participated in the sham.

Join Jeffrey S. Baird, Esq., Chairman of the Health Care Group of Brown & Fortunato, P.C., to learn the latest legal tips so that your DME business remains within the law. This presentation will help attendees: understand how telehealth requirements vary from state to state (e.g., visual and audio requirements), analyze Medicare requirements for reimbursement so that suppliers’ claims are not denied, and explain violations of the Medicare anti-kickback statute regarding telehealth encounters
