A new player in the sleep apnea market made its first trade show
appearance at Medtrade in Orlando, Fla. At the show, AeioMed
introduced a compact CPAP system with a nasal interface headrest
design featuring no forehead pads and no straps.

Company CEO Steve Bordewick, an industry veteran who worked with
mask development in the 1990s, decided to launch a new company
during a harsh investment climate — after the Sept. 11
attacks — and to focus the new venture on patient compliance.
Since, Bordewick said, he has received “substantial capital
investment” to fund development efforts.

He added that the company is looking at strategic alliances and
other technologies outside the traditional sleep market. “We
could be more than a sleep technology company,” he said at a
press briefing.

AeioMed officials said they hope to start shipping the interface
this month and the new CPAP, called the Aura, during the first
quarter of next year.
